In the first half of 2024, MDA LAOS Corporation is conducting cultivation tests on various types of vegetables by reclaiming some of the properties, excluding macadamias, avocados, and coffee fields, as fields for growing vegetables, and in the future, MDA plans establish a cultivation cycle by selecting suitable vegetables by taking into account the local climate environment, soil, etc.
MDA LAOS' subsidiary, MDA LA FARM is located in Paksong County, Champasak Province and it has a temperate climate at a high altitude of about 1,300m and the unique red volcanic soil of the Bolaven Plateau, having good drainage and rich minerals, thus being able to produce macadamias and coffee along with a variety of vegetables.
Vegetables currently being tested include strawberries, melons, watermelons, tomatoes, peppers, radishes, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, and corn, etc. After the cultivation tests, the harvested products will not only be sold but also shared with local residents, including employees and nearby farmers.
In the case of strawberries, Korean varieties were cultivated, which had a higher sugar content and better aroma and flavor than strawberries from other farms, and were well received by officials of relevant organizations and village residents. In addition to supplying to large markets, we shared with Champasak State University students and village residents and had a meaningful time.
Laos is basically an agricultural country in that about 75% of the total population is engaged in agriculture, and the direction of its development strategy is to prioritize poverty alleviation of farm households, rural development, and improvement of productivity in the agricultural sector, so MDA, in line with the national policy of Laos will do its best and contribute to the development of the agricultural sector.
